Groups Fear Taum Sauk Fallout Will Nuke Missouri

Environmental groups are concerned that Ameren is going to use the Taum Sauk disaster as an excuse to build Missouri’s second nuclear power plant at its Callaway County site or perhaps will resurrect its ill fated plans to build two large pumped storage facilities on top of mountains by Taum Sauk.



Talk of a second Missouri nuke surfaced just a few days before the December 14 Taum Sauk disaster.

Jean Trousdale reports that Paul Zumwalt, first winner of the Jack Longacre and Vin Hoeman awards, guidebook author, and definitive friend of highpointers passed on Monday, Dec. 19.

Miriam Richards Seeking to Raise $30,000 For Special Deaf Services on McKinley

THe Corvallis, Oregon, Gazette Times reports that Miriam Richards wants to climb the last three states (Rainier/Gannett/McKinley) in 2005. She also has MS. She has to raise $30,000 to climb McKinley because of special arrangements have to be made — noting that guides are reluctant to take her on.
