March of Dimes Monument Moved From Mount Mansfield Nose

The Burlington Free Press has an article on the moving of the March of Dimes monument from the Nose of Mount Mansfield to a more visible location at Mayo Farm in the village of Stowe.

Clem Curtis of Stowe worked for the construction company that put the marble “dime” and its base with stone plaques from 48 states on the mountain in 1956. The dime is the symbol of the March of Dimes…

The monument commemorated the first major outbreak of polio in the United States which sickened 132 Vermonters in 1894.
