KCTS in Seattle is to air The Wonderland Project about an attempt to circumnavigating Washingtonâââ‰â¢s Mt. Rainier, in a single 24 hour push.
Non-competetive ultramarathon runners Skye Thompson and Zac West forged their friendship into a critical partnership over two years of training, and they were positioned to break the record on September 11, 2003. Thompson finished alone, breaking the record with a time of 25 hours, 45 minutes. A year later, the men returned and finished together in 26 hours.
Thompsonâââ‰â¢s record didnâââ‰â¢t last long. The day after his first run, John Stamstad of Seattle missed the 24-hour mark by one minute.
ââ∠âThe trail is ripe for the picking,âââ¬Ã said Thompson, who thinks the trail can be run in less than 20 hours. ââ∠âIâââ‰â¢m surprised the Wonderland Trail hasnâââ‰â¢t become a test piece for local ultra marathoners.âââ¬ÃÂ
