Early Season Mines Peak, Colorado, Avalanche Fatal to Man and Dog

WCF Courier reports an early early avalanche on Mines Peak in Colorado killed Samuel Teetzen of Littleton, CO, and his pet golden retriever.

Teetzen, 32, was snowboarding with two friends and his golden retriever. Snow reportedly broke loose from the northwest side of Mines Peak near Berthoud Pass, according to the Grand County Colorado Sheriff’s Department.

Teetzen did not have an avalanche beacon (although he owns one).
