Ground was finally broken for the Hands Across the Mountain overlook of Kentucky’s Black Mountain summit in October.
The overlook is to be in Virginia. There had been delays in the 5-year-old project because the Virginia Department Department of Transportation would not accept ownership of the overlook from Penn-Virginia Coal Company. However, Wise County, Virginia, stepped up to accept ownership.
Dr. Stan Botts Jr., Virginia chair of Hands Across the Mountain, said there are some environmental issues that must be addressed but hopes the overlook will be completed in 2006.
Those interested in membership or projects should contact Botts at 523-2319.
