Massive Rainier Search Called Off

The News Tribune reports that a massive search for a Connecitcut man missing on Rainier has been complicated because of his off route hiking.

Searchers followed what they believe are Zachary Weston’s boot tracks along Wapowety Cleaver to an elevation of about 10,000 feet at which point they petered out in the rocky terrain. The Cleaver separates Koutz and Nisqually glaciers. Searchers are now planning to go into the Rainier crater and to search steam caves. Weston has been missing since August 11.
