AP reports Blue Ridge Parkway between Mount Mitchell and N.C. 80 will be open in time for Memorial Day weekend although a short section will be only one lane.
The section had been closed because of landslides following heavy rains during last fall’s busy hurricane season which at estimated $8 million worth of damage to the parkway.
The road will close again for a few days in June.
The northernmost section damaged by the storm, an 8-mile stretch between Bear Den Mountain Road and Linville Falls, will remain closed, possibly into next year, said parkway spokesman Phil Noblitt.
