Mount Rainier National Park is preparing to open bids to run the concessions in the park. Mount Rainier Guest Services currently operates the concessions including Paradise Inn and National Park Inn and has the contract since 1987. Its contract was to expire Dec. 31 but has been extended to December 31, 2012
Hope is dwindling on finding 4 climbers reported missing for more than a week on Mount Rainier on the Disappointment Cleaver Route. They are Mark Vucich, 37, of San Diego, and Michelle Trojanowski, 30, of Atlanta. The two were planning to camp at the Muir snowfield. Sork “Erik” Yang, 52, of Springfield, Oregon, and Seol Hee Jin, 52, from Korea.

Mount Rainier has installed a webcam at Camp Muir. The web cam data is transmitted in the same packet as the camp’s weather. Officials note that it may be white at times since there is not enough power to address rime ice issue.
