Climber Falls 1,000 Feet From Hood Summit

Robert Cormier, a Jersey City, New Jersey, fell 1,000 down the north side of Mount Hood from the summit about 8 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2014. A helicopter was sent to investigate and found no signs of life but authorities said it would take a week to recover his body because of poor weather and avalanche conditions.

Late Season Snows Bring Mount Hood Snowpack Up to Near Normal


The Pacific Northwest has been suffering from very low snowpack. However heavy snows in February pushed its snowpack up 30 percent to 86 percent of normal on Mount Hood. Other areas south of Mount Hood and in California are still suffering.

Warm Springs Pow Wow on Mount Hood on Sepember 28


The Warm Springs tribe (known as the Tenino people) have a right by treaty to use the area around Government Camp on Mount Hood. The Mt. Hood Tribal Heritage Center, named Wiwnu Wash, opened at the Mount Skibowl in 2012. The tribe will hold its annual pow wow at the SKibowl on September 28, 2013.

Polish Military Officer Killed on Climbers Left Chute on Mount Hood

Authorities report 32-year-old Sebastian Kinasiewic, a Polish military officer, was killed on Mount Hood. His body was discovered at 9500 feet in the couloir Climbers Left Chute

Ice Cave Collapse Kills Mount Hood Snowboarder

An ice cave collapse on the White River Glacier killed snowboarde Collin Backowski. Officials noted warm weather has contributed to instability on the mountain.

Body spotted on Mt. Hood believed that of climber

A body found by a helicopter on Mount Hood at 8,400 feet on Sandy Glacier is believed to be that of missing climber Kinley Adams who has been missing since June 22. Rescue operations were hampered first by bad weather which made flying impossible and then by warm weather which has made a recovery difficult.

Adams had taken the Leuthold Couloir route up Hood.

Update:
The body was confirmed to be Adams when it was brought down about 6 p.m., Sunday, June 30.
