Hiker's Body Found Month After Getting Off Commuter Train at Breakneck Ridge in New York

Here’s an update on February 3, 2005:
WNBC reports the body of Myung Geuk Choi has been found at the base of a 100 foot cliff at Breakneck Ridge in suburban New York City. Trails.com had noted the Breakneck is the most popular map downloaded from its site. Locals note that in addition to the usual cliffs rising off the Hudson, it also has cliffs dropping unexpectedly from a massive quary at its base. Choi had been missing since Jan. 2 and was searched for by more than 100 people.

Whitney, Clingmans, Frissell Most Popular Highpoints on Trails.Com

Trails.com has issued its list of most popular (and presumably most downloaded) trails. The downloaded trails are heavily weighted to the Northeast and the New York City metro area in particular with Breakneck Ridge Trail being #1. You might recall my last reporting about being escorted at gunpoint in January 2003 after missing the trailhead and wandering too close to New York City’s water supply tunnel which crosses the Hudson from the Catskills. So, it probably is a good idea to have a map even if the Metro North train actually drops you off at the trailhead (the only trail in the NYC metro area with such specific connections).

Teen Breaks Leg in 400 Foot Fall on Mount Coldon

The AP published on WNBC reports 16-year-old Allen Glick of Englewood, N.J. lost his footing and slid 400 feet on Mount Coldon where he broke his leg. His party called 911 and transported him to Lake Arnold where rangers evacuated him.

Fatality At Sam's Point in New York

The Daily Freeman reports 67-year-old Shinya Fujii died after hitting his head on a rock after falling backwards on a steep incline at Sam’s Point near Cragmore, ny.
