Mount Washington Warns on April Avalanches at Tuckerman Ravine

Mount Washington Auto Road Opens 4:30 AM August 25 So Visitors Can Watch the Sunrise

The Mount Washington Auto Road will open early (4:30 a.m.) on August 25 so people can watch the sunrise from the summit. Road officials advise to get there early as there’s usually a long line.

$225,000 Raised for Mount Washington Observatory in 2013 Seek the Peak Hiking Fundraiser

Mount Washington Observatory’s biggest fundraiser Seek the Peak raised $225,000 this year. According to their website:

Appalachian Mountain Club celebrates 125 years mountain hut system in New Hampshire White Mountains

The Appalachian Mountain Club is celebrating the oldest mountain to mountain hut system in the United States — 125 years.

The Madison Spring hut was built in the summer of 1888 between Mount Madison and Mount Adams. AMC founding member Rosewell Lawrence and a companion spent several nights in the hut in February 1889. He wrote a diary entry hailing it as ‘‘a great institution. Oldest mountain hut system marks 125 years in NH – News Local New Hampshire – Boston.com.
