Hill Canyon Ranger District in Custer has issued about falling trees damaged by pine beetles that occurs on the north and west sides of Harney Peak.

Black Fly Affair in the Adirondacks

Are the famed black flies in May in the Adirondacks bothering you and making summiting Marcy impossible. What are you going to do? Why of course go dancing. The Adirondack Mountain Club is sponsoring the Black Fly Affair (Black tie optional; Hiking Boots Mandatory) at the Fort William Henry Hotel White Lion Ballroom, overlooking Lake George on May 21.

Pine Beetles Devastating Harney Peak

The Rapid City Journal reports that pine mountain pine beetles are devastating Harney Peak. They are attempt to fight the beetles by thinning trees in the area.

Africa Bees Attack 32 Hikers in Saguaro National Park

Fox11 in Arizona reports that 32 members of a running club were stung by Africanized bees in Saguaro National Park. Two who were hospitalized with anaphylactic shock, authorities said. THe hikers scattered from the location and a helicopter search had to find four of them.
