46-year-old Patrick Scott Powers of Mansfield., Mass, fell 800 feet from Tuckerman Ravine while descending Mount Washington on January 9, 2011.

Sherman, T. Allenson, Jr., 58, of Tyler, was found dead on September 5, 2011, by hikers about a mile from the Black Mesa, Oklahoma trailhead. Foul play is not suspected and it is believed he had been dead for some time.

Joe Puryear, a former climbing ranger at Mount Rainier from 1996 to 2000, was killed on 24,170-foot Labuche Kang in Tibet on October 26, 2010. He had been climbing with David Gottlieb, the current lead ranger at Rainier. They had been blogging on climbtibet.blogspot.com. The peak had only been climbed once before (in 1987).

Here’s an unusual tale of the impact on Corbin Mabon of finding the body of climber Jeff Rosinski who fell to death on Longs Peak on July16. Mabon never knew or met Rosinski but went to his home town following the discovery. Here’s an article on the accident itself.

Lee Adams III was killed on July 27 when he fell into a crevasse on Emmons Glaicer at the 13,000 level on Mount Rainier. Adams was leading a group of three when all fell into the crevasse after summiting. The others were injured but able to climb out.

A climber on the north side of Mount Hood near the Coe Glacier about the 9,500 foot level near the Snow Dome died on June 16.

Details are sketchy and poor weather meant that his body was left on the mountain overnight. The hiker was identified as Robert Wiebe, 58, of Langley, British Columbia. Officials had issued warnings about climbing the mountain above 8,000 feet following an an avalanche on June 5 on Mount Rainier. It is the first fatal accident on the mountain since December 2009 when three perished. Only one body from that party has been recovered.

Pascal Frison, a 51-year-old climber, from Auxerre, France, died Sunday, May 16, after sliding down a crevasse on Mount McKinley on Sunday, May 16. He and his partner were not roped together as is recommended were on a section of the West Bustress that was not steep but that the sides were when he tried to rescue his sled from falling 1,000 feet into the ravine. He is the 107th fatality on the mountain since records began.
