Legendary Climber Chad Kellogg Killed in Patagonia, Argentina Accident

Legendary climber Chad Kellogg of Seattle was killed Friday, Feb. 14 when he was hit by a rock while climbing Mount Fitz Roy, in the Patagonia region of Argentina. Among his other accomplishments was a claimed record roundtrip climb of Denali’s West Buttress in 23 hours and 55 minutes in 2003 (doing the ascent in 14 hours 22 minutes (from 7,200 ft. to 20,320 ft.). No attempt has been made so far to recover his body.

Story on Chad Kellogg’s Unsuccessful for Speed Record for Climbing Everest Without Oxygen

The Seattle Times has great article on Chad Kellogg’s unsuccessful attempt to set a record on climbing Everest from Nepal without oxygen. Kellogg had wanted to sprinkle his ashes on the summit. Kellogg climbed from base camp to the Balcony (an ascent of nearly 3,000 meters) in about 19 hours before turning back. In 2004 Kellogg climbed from Paradise to the top of Rainier and back down in 4 hours, 59 minutes
