Mark Beaumont bicycled around the the world in a record 194 days and 17 hours in 2008. In 2009, he biked the American Cordillera – the longest mountain range on the planet. Included on the adventure were climbs of McKinley and Aconcagua.

Jordan Romero of Los Angeles is seeking to be the youngest to climb Everest. He was climbed Kilimanjaro at 10 and Aconcagua and McKinley at 11. His father and step-mother will accompany him. He has climbed six of the seven summits. Temba Tsheri, 16, of Nepal currently holds the Everest youngest record.

Jordan’s father reported that he is 20,000 foot on the mountain now. In response to criticism about whether his lungs could handle he was quoted on Good Morning America:

“I’ve researched every bit of published information that’s ever been done on children and altitude, and there’s nothing negative about children and altitude,” Romero said. “Those are just naysayers. Those are people who think a 13-year-old shouldn’t be in the mountains.”

Jordan’s team is following the Northeast Ridge, considered the more difficult of the two most frequently used routes to the summit, on which climbers begin their ascent in Tibet.
