Vermont has requested that the Bicknell’s thrush be listed as an endangered species. The thrush is found at higher elevations of Mount Mansfield and other northeast peaks. The state notes that global warming is destroying its balsam fir habitat. There are 95,000 to 126,000 of the birds but their numbers are dramatically decreasing.

Jasper National Park in Alberta have found the nearly perfectly preserved body of climber William Holland on Dome Glacier after Holland fell off a mountain 21 years ago.
The Rainier Mountain Festival is held each September and brings world class climbers to the mountain. In 2010 among the climbers participating are Ed Viesturs, Jim Whittaker, Dave Hahn, Peter Whittaker. Climbers will sign their books. There will be technique demonstrations and slideshows. The 2010 festival is September 11-12. It is at Rainier BaseCamp in Ashford.
