Baxter in $14 Million Expansion to Include Katahdin Lake

Trust for Public Land has closed on a $14 million expansion of 6,000 acres of Baxter State Park.

The deal now includes Katahdin Lake in the park.

The 6,015 acres to be purchased borders 7 miles of the eastern boundary of Baxter park, site of Mount Katahdin. The deal awaits private funding and legislative approval.

$3 million have already been pledged for the purchase, and state Conservation Commissioner Patrick McGowan said he’s confident the remaining $11 million will be forthcoming by a July 1 deadline.
