Mount Magazine construction work on the 60-room lodge and 13 guest cabins has reached its final stages and is supposed to be finished sometime in January.
Then, the lodge will go through a “quiet” opening period before a grand opening celebration which will feature a May 18 ribbon cutting ceremony, according to Park Superintendent David Flugrad.
Park personnel are continuing to take guest reservations for May 1 and after, Flugrad said last week. So far, 2,500 reservations have been made for rooms or cabins.
In early December, the State Park hosted a job fair that allowed employment seekers to file applications. The Park Superintendent said 147 applications were turned in for 22 full time and 25 part time or seasonal jobs.
The new Mount Magazine Lodge will be comprised of three connected buildings totaling 126,177 square feet. These will include a restaurant, conference, meeting facility, a registration, guest services facility and a guest room, swimming pool facility.
Thirteen full-service cabins will consist of five 873-square-foot one-bedroom units, seven 1,317-square-foot two-bedroom units, and one 1,669-square-foot three-bedroom unit.
