TV Documentary "The Wonderland Project" About Record For Running 97 Mile Trail in Under 26 Hours

KCTS in Seattle is to air The Wonderland Project about an attempt to circumnavigating Washington’s Mt. Rainier, in a single 24 hour push.

Non-competetive ultramarathon runners Skye Thompson and Zac West forged their friendship into a critical partnership over two years of training, and they were positioned to break the record on September 11, 2003. Thompson finished alone, breaking the record with a time of 25 hours, 45 minutes. A year later, the men returned and finished together in 26 hours.

Thompson’s record didn’t last long. The day after his first run, John Stamstad of Seattle missed the 24-hour mark by one minute.

“The trail is ripe for the picking,” said Thompson, who thinks the trail can be run in less than 20 hours. “I’m surprised the Wonderland Trail hasn’t become a test piece for local ultra marathoners.”
