KOIN reports William Painter broke the record he set last year as oldest man to summit Rainier (82).
On the same day 7-year-old Aidan Gold of Bothell summited with his parents.
Painter trains by climbing 800-foot Badger Mountain near his home while carrying 40-pound weights.
The 7-year-old boy is not the youngest to climb Mount Rainier. That record is held by a 4-year-old who reached the top in 1999 with his family.
“The most important thing is not getting to the summit, but getting down.”
