2 Fatalities on Most Difficult Ushba Route in Georgia’s Caucasus

Civil.de reports two Georgian climbers from a Georgian-Dutch expedition perished on the 4,710-meter Ushba mountain in Georgia’s Caucasus Mountains.

Georgia had called in Elbrus Rescue Units from Russia to assist after attempts to rescue them while they were alive were thwarted by poor weather.

The victims: Zaliko Kikodze and Merab Khabazi.

They were trying to reach Ushba’s peak through one of the most difficult of the fifty available routes.
