Details of Resurveying of Rainier Setting Height at 14,411.1 Feet

The American Surveyor has an extensive article on the logistics of its July 2010 effort to determine the height of Mount Rainier (which was set at 14,411.1 feet). It notes the various USGS monuments on the summit hit those of previous expeditions within 0.1 ft, but the one remaining monument on the peak was high by 0.3 ft–exactly the amount the monument had been pried up. A cooler version of the article with lots of photos included the pried monument is in the .pdf version.
