This is from the site in 2013 headlined “1,300 runners, 34 states, 7.6 miles all uphill”:

This Saturday the Northeast Delta Dental Mt. Washington Road Race will welcome 1300 runners from 34 states plus the District of Columbia and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec for the annual 7.6-mile footrace to the summit of the highest peak in the northeastern United States. The race course, the Mt. Washington Auto Road, ascends from Route 16 to the 6288-foot summit of Mt. Washington at an average grade of 12 percent, with the additional challenge of the mountain’s notorious weather, which can include drastic temperature drops and high winds. Starting time is 9 a.m

  1. Todd Brown says:

It was 50′s and rainy at the base and 40 and rainy at the summit. Visibility at the summit was only about 100 feet for this year’s race. Only one in six days at the summit has good weather. Hopefully the club will get at least one 100 mile visibility day for the convention.
FYI, the next day was a trail run that included a 3.5 mile ascent of Mt Greylock, the MA High Point. See http://www.runwmac.com there is also a road race up Greylock on Labor Day weekend.
